Buddhism Today
A lecture introducing Buddha’s teachings
Lama Ole Nydahl, a Western teacher of Diamond Way Buddhism, will give a lecture entitled “Buddhism Today” on Friday 17 April at 8:00 p.m. in the Hofgarten-Stadthalle in Immenstadt. He explains in a fresh way the practical application of timeless wisdom in our modern world. The entrance fee is 10 €.
After spending years studying buddhist teachings and meditation practices, Danish-born Lama Ole Nydahl and his wife Hannah were authorized by their teachers to make Diamond Way Buddhism accessible to the Western world. Since 1972 they have founded about six hundred buddhist centers worldwide. With directness and humor, Lama Ole Nydahl shows the spontaneous freshness of resting in one’s mind. Diamond Way Buddhism represents the most widespread approach to practising Buddhism outside the traditionally buddhist countries today. It mainly focuses on meditation and transmission of knowledge from teacher to student, and especially emphasises personal responsibility.
The lecture has been organised by the Europe Center at Gut Hochreute, a seminar and event venue where people from all over the world meet, deepen their knowledge of Buddhism and meditate together. The current cultural programme there includes: a statue exhibition from 3 May until 26 July open every Sunday for guided tours from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. and a summer concert of classical music on 26 July at 11:00 p.m. Weekly program: Introductory explanations about Buddhism and the Europe Center, Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., followed by a guided meditation at 8:00 p.m. (The meditation takes about 30 minutes and is read in English because there are many international residents and visitors).
