Thangka Painting Course

We would like to invite you to the first course with  thangka painter Dawa, Urken Lama from Kathmandu, Nepal. The painting course will take place from 02.09 – 08.09. Starting on Friday evening with an introductory lecture and ends on Thursday evening.

Who is Dawa?

Dawa is a 50 year old master of the Karma  Gadri style of Tibetan art. He lives with his wife and daughters in Rumtek, Sikkim and is a close student of Karmapa Thaye Dordje and an supporter of Lama Ole. The Karmapa told him to teach the Karma Gadri style explicitly to Diamond Way students after finishing the gompa project in Karma Guen.

Who is this course for?

All people who are interested in learning the iconography of the Karma Kagyu style – the so called Karma Gadri. Beginners will learn how to sketch the symbols and motives, and advanced students can get transmission in working with colors (shading techniques) and Buddha aspects.

What do you need?

Beginners: paper for sketches, pencil, sharpener, eraser, ruler and maybe aboard for sketching vertically like on a wall.

Advanced: as above and colours (acrylic, or if already prepared also pigments), brushes, paper.
