Zoning popular action won

Dearest friends,

Great news! Today the city of Immenstadt won the court case against the zoning for the master plan of our new building project. From now on there should be no more hindrances in completing the EC, and we will start building in the spring of 2013. The necessary permissions will be handed to us within the next few days.

We were convinced that the outcome would be positive based on the professional work of all the planners involved, and we are very happy that everything went so smoothly. We are fully immersed in the detailed planning of the new gompa and the guest and residential buildings. We are very confident that you will like it and that it will also be considered as enriching on many levels by all our fellow citizens of Immenstadt.

Wishlist: The quest for a perfect dormitory

Unmade beds everywhere. Piles of stuff without any apparent owner, half of which has been there for months. Wet towels hanging from every possible ledge and corner. Lively nights one can’t survive without a pair of good ear plugs with lights going on and off at arbitrary moments. All the air seems to dissapear the moment you close the door. Welcome to a dormitory.

Or is there another way? Often small smart details can make life much easier – a well-placed hanger, a built-in shelf, an automatic night-light glowing dimly at the floor level…

20 years on the road – transmission weekend with Caty & Tomek

Caty Hartung and Tomek Lehnert will come together at the Europe Center to tell us about their experiences from their many years on the road with Lama Ole. They have both worked closely with Lama Ole for more than 20 years, and the chance to hear stories and insights from the two of them together will be unforgettable.

The Europe Center certainly fits the occasion, as a central purpose of the EC is to let us all share in this precious experience of working for the dharma across many cultures. In this sense, we cross national borders every day by simply coming to, sharing, working and practicing together at the EC. Caty and Tomek represent this more than anyone in the international history of Diamond Way Buddhism.

Wishlist: Editing and converting videos

We are looking for somebody reliable who can help editing and converting videos. We have recorded all kinds of activities here at the EC and have a huge movie archive. Currently everything is in an insane FullHD format and some of the things are not edited yet.

Requirements:

a half-way decent PC or a MAC
at least 50 GB of free space
time to edit and compress videos

Book & meditation retreat – Lama Ole at the EC

We have thought hard how to make the most out of them for everybody – giving Lama Ole enough space for focused and undisturbed work and our friends a possibility to meditate in his power field. Traveling with the Lama – the last Transmission weekend of 2011

End of the year is a good time to make traveling plans for the next one coming. When a friend comes from a tour with the Lama and starts to recount all the stories and experiences, it’s easy to get excited and inspired to hit the road ourselves.

This is exactly what the last transmission weekend of 2011 is about. But don’t expect last year’s bus tour stories – our guests will be people who were on the road already when Lama Ole and Hannah first brought Diamond Way Buddhism to the West- some traveled even with the 16th Karmapa.

Nordic weekend is coming!

Complaint against zoning

We recently got to know that in early August 2011, 10 citizens of Immenstadt—members of the local Bund Naturschutz (nature protection)—filed a “Popular Action” against the City of Immenstadt and the District Administration of Oberallgäu. This court proceeding might have an impact on us and our construction process. We were warmly welcomed by the community members of Immenstadt, and since 2007 we have experienced a lot of openness and support, especially during the Summer Courses, therefore, we are surprised by this action.

With this action, the plaintiffs go against the zoning plan for the construction and extension of the Europe Center, which was accepted by the City of Immenstadt. As part of this „Popular Action“, the Bavarian Constitutional Court will be reviewing the zoning laws and statutes with respect to their compatibility with the Bavarian Constitution.

We are of course concerned, but hope that our planned schedule can be met without any significant delays. Whatever happens, we will keep you updated and our fundraising campaign more.ec will continue as planned.

We recently learned that in early August 2011, 10 residents of Immenstadt—members of the local Bund Naturschutz (nature protection)—filed a “Popular Action” against the City of Immenstadt and the District Administration of Oberallgäu. In its complaint, the plaintiffs go against the zoning law adopted by the City of Immenstadt which makes the expansion and extension of the Europe Center possible. As part of this Popular Action, the Bavarian Constitutional Court will be reviewing the zoning laws and statutes with respect to their compatibility with the Bavarian Constitution. These court proceedings will have an impact on us and our construction process.
