One of those days

January 22, 2009

This Wednesday was one of those days when it´s good to stay in the bed no matter what. Winter time brought us typical mountain adventures like snow storms and icy roads. Although we are cleaning the road up to the EC every day, this time the weather conditions were really hard and many cars did not manage to come up. More than that Beate´s car became quite uncontrollable and she went down the road. All protectors were present so fortunately nothing happened to her. The next day a car company and Lasse driving the tractor, worked three hours on pulling the car up the cliff. If you decide to come in snowy weather, please make sure to have chains on your tires, or a strong four wheel car. Sometimes it is even very smart to leave the car down the hill and walk up.

Friends, we do not know how it happened (or maybe we do), but the babies are attacking EC! They are small, soft, funny, happy and everywhere. And after some deep investigation of this phenomenom we have found out that they like to swim. This buddhist baby swimming invasion group had to be guided to the closest warm swimming pool otherwise they would try spontaneosly swim in our half frozen lake.

If you come to EC looking for a guy who can build a house, teach you how to ski, meditate with you everyday, go swimming in the early morning to the cold lake or have a nice chat with a beer in the evening, ask for Alexander. He came from Vienna last winter and since that moment he is all the time working outside of the house leading the construction. And his dark sides? Well, he really hates brocolli, unhealthy food and non action movies. So friends, check the pictures and meet Alexander…

The First Transmission Weekend

December 26, 2008

Last weekend we had the first “transmission weekend” at the EC. A few days before the first people arrived, already bringing a lot of inspiration. The first lecture was planned on Friday evening with Wojtek Tracewski, who could not come because of fever and illness. However we managed to listen to amazing Erik Weiss instead. He gave an inspiring lecture on Teacher and student relationship. Saturday morning Sasha Koibagarov told many great stories about the beginning of Buddhism in Russia and after a tasty lunch Edita shared the stories from the first wild years in dharma with us.

The evening started with the presentation of the pictures from 70s, 80s and 90s and then Erik, Sasha, Caty, Edita and also Jesper from America started to tell amazing stories from the “old times”. During this time other friends got a microphone as well so they could contribute with their memories. Around midnight Grisha from Russia was also asked to share his deep knowledge and from than on the evening turned even wilder :)

The next day Caty did a session of questions and answers and explained how the centers looked like more than 20 years ago and how they have been transformed the last years. She also shared many stories from traveling with Lama Ole.

Everybody really understood how important and inspiring is to share many levels and depths of the transmission of our teachings and style over the years in different countries. Of course we are aware of the fact, that this weekend had limited capacity due to cold winter conditions, which was painful for us to do, but we already plan many other weekends like that for you. In warmer days everything will be much easier and we would be able to host more people here. You can already look forward to the next one coming next year. And dear friends, please understand that we cannot make streaming from this event, because “the transmission weekend” should be kept as oral transmission.

Yours,
EC team

Visitors from the North

December 14, 2008

Last week a mini-van with 8 friends from Hamburg bravely drove down through heavy snow to help at the EC. Some had made wishes to see some snow flakes and the group received a rich southern experience.

It was quite something to drive 50 km/h on the autobahn and having to push the car up to Schwarzenberg, where we went to listen to Sasha Koibagarov. The last day our friends used the fresh thick carpet of snow to build us a Snowyamuni in front of the house. It was a wonderful weekend.

Before and after no. II

December 12, 2008

To remind all the changes we always try to document how the place looked like and how does it look now. These before and after pictures seem to be quite impressive, don´t you think? The statue in the main hall, the roof, the barn, new bathroom, Lama´s flat and of course the weather changes…

Philip and Mirjana with her daughter Elena moved to the EC as the first inhabitants in the year 2007. Philip is the man who found this beautiful place for all of us. He works as an architect and takes care also of the architectural plans in our property. Mirjana was born in Croatia and she is the one answering you all the work emails. Mirjana loves healthy food and Philip really enjoys badminton and sushi. This year they brought a big gift to the EC – Benno and Maxim – the first babies born here. On upcoming Saturday is the family moving away from the house, but not so far. They found a great flat down in Immenstadt, so they will stay close to us..

Winter arrived!

November 23, 2008

Friday evening the long awaited snow finally fell. Some of us were visiting Schwarzenberg where Zsuzsa gave a great lecture. Within a few hours more than 10cm had fallen and we “had” to stay there overnight. Even though we missed the EC of course very much, we very much enjoyed waking up with a magnificent view of the winter wonder land around our great neighbours’ place.

Saturday we managed to drive back over the slippery roads to prepare dinner and a party for the Immenstadt Sangha. The view of the snowy landscape at the EC was equally breathtaking. In the evening many friends came, bringing delicous contributions to the buffet, which we enjoyed after a meditation with Zsuzsa. She had hopped over to say hi. After the dinner we went down to the music and some very tasty cocktails made by Klara.

Meet Tomi, the architect. Living in the Europe center since last winter.

Tamas is the first character on the blog from our new serial about the people living in the Europe center – EC family LIVE. We decided to introduce you step by step every hero of our project, because many people are all the time asking who is who in the EC.

Tomi is Hungarian (living in the Budapest center before), which means a lot of funny jokes, spicy humor and good mood all the time. His main job here is working with Philip on many architectural projects like planning the reconstruction and measurement of buildings. His job takes a lot of time and patience that is why he is constantly in his office behind the computer. Or you can see him outside helping on construction or dancing in the evenings or ordering his favourite pizza from Immenstadt.

Nowadays you can find him covered with blankets in the winter garden – his temporary cold architecture office, which we move very soon back to the grey room of the villa .

And remember: never miss another episode of the EC family LIVE!!!
