Introductory Explanations Part 2 –
4 Basic Thoughts
We have 6 basic Dharma topics being taught to choose from every morning in the gompa tent during the course. So here’s our own little series of mini-explanations to share a part of this with you.
The four thoughts turn the mind and develop a deep understanding of the basic facts of our lives and direct mind towards the Dharma. These thoughts are:
- The precious opportunity of our current existence to encounter the teachings which lead to liberation and enlightenment.
- Impermanence – since all conditions are understood to be in constant change, one should use every opportunity to recognize mind.
- Karma, cause and effect, that shapes one’s life with one’s thoughts, words and actions.
- The disadvantage of conditioned existence where enlightenment is the only true and lasting joy.
