Welcome Home!

As an international meeting place, the Europe Center maintains the living transmission of the Diamond Way in the Karma Kagyü Lineage.

Buddhists from our tradition from around the world have found a new home here. Meditations and meditation courses, lectures, meetings and many other activities are offered year round on a voluntary basis. Realized teachers and experienced Buddhists regularly offer Buddha’s knowledge and methods to interested persons.

The Europe Center

Diamond Way Buddhists from around the world conducted a search over many years to find the right location for meditation and related work.

From the beginning, it was clear that more space was needed for residents, guests and courses: As Diamond Way Buddhism in Tibet almost completely disappeared as a result of the political events of the 20th century, this valuable and unique knowledge of the Buddha should be preserved in the West. At Gut Hochreute (EC) this noble responsibility is fulfilled based on a foundation of idealism and friendship.

The location

The Europe Center is located in the foothills of the Alps at an altitude of 850 meters about sea level.

High above the Alpsee lake, embedded in dreamlike natural surroundings full of fields and forests, the EC is distinguished by its unique location. It is comprised of the historical ensemble of four Art Déco buildings, which date to 1908 and 1911 and a large “L-shaped” new building, which was completed in 2015.

The owners

The owners of the Europe Center are the Buddhists of the approximately 700 Diamond Way centers and groups of the Karma Kagyü Lineage around the world.

The legal owner is the Buddhismus Stiftung Diamantweg (Diamond Way Buddhism Foundation), founded in 1999. The goal of the Foundation to make the thousand-year-old Buddhist wisdom accessible to lay Buddhists in the modern world.

The main teacher is Lama Ole Nydahl. The lineage holder of the Karma Kagyü School of Tibetan Buddhism, to which the EC belongs, is the 17th Karmapa Trinley Thaye Dorje.

Activities

Our international network focuses on our various activities such as daily meditations, foundational and advanced Buddhist lectures, meetings, courses, renovation and construction activities, seminars and statue exhibitions.

Once every year an international summer course is held, which includes an intensive meditation and teaching program with high teachers of the Karma Kagyü Lineage.

As in all Diamond Way centers, individual work contributions and donations are given voluntarily and out of personal surplus.
